STEMinars

STEMinars are a great way to come and learn about what the STEM Center has to offer! These 90 minutes sessions will provide an overview of the center’s technology training stations, which include Solar Energy, Hydroponics, 3D Printing, Drones, and Virtual & Augmented Reality. These sessions will also provide an introduction to the center’s Mac Lab with industry software and digital microscopes! See calendar for available class times. You must attend a STEMinar session in order to register for STEM Center Community Training Courses.

STEMinar Schedule (30-Minute Session)

Class Schedules & Descriptions

Offering 8-Week Community Training Classes

The 8-week Community Training Courses will offer skills training in specific technology disciplines to include Solar Energy, Hydroponics, 3D Printing, and Drones. Those who complete a full 8-week course will receive a Certification of Skills Training. See Program Calendar for full schedule to include holidays and campus closures.

Solar Energy

The Solar Energy Community Training Course at the STEM Center will provide resources and training equipment to prepare learners for entry into the fields of solar power and renewable energy. The program will demonstrate general components of solar electric systems, including solar modules, AC power inverters, DC and AC disconnects, dedicated meters, and main electrical panels, displaying how they interconnect. The training program also incorporates hands-on testing and solar configuration equipment modules while highlighting how various solar technologies can be used to achieve a range of objectives. The program also integrates the basics of renewable electricity generation. Learners will gains skills and experience for entry into solar energy careers such as field technicians and installers, project developers, and sales consultants.

Hydroponics

The Community Training Course for Advanced Hydroponics will provide indoor agriculture training. The STEM Center’s hydroponic technologies include automation of lighting and water circulation as well as professional quality equipment for testing pH, electrical conductivity, and other components of nutrient solutions. The growing units demonstrate adjustable lighting configurations, varying planting processes, and multiple growing techniques. Learners will gain a range of skills and experience operating and maintaining indoor hydroponic technologies for entry into a variety of fields including urban agriculture for the production of local crops, plant biology, food science, systems design and maintenance, and other indoor agriculture professions.

3D Printing

The 3D Printing Community Training Course will give learners access to real-world technologies used in the workplace. Featuring a variety of machine types, such as fused-filament fabrication (FFF) and stereolithography apparatus (SLA), users will learn how to 3D model to design and manufacture parts, pieces, objects, and even products in a professional environment. Large-format printing and post-processing technology will also expand the capabilities of the program. Through this program, learners will gain skills and experience using 3D printing technologies which are used in a variety of industries such as manufacturing and prototyping, robotics and engineering, medical and dentistry, automotive and aviation, jewelry and fashion design, and hydroponics and agriculture.

Drones

The Drone Training Program will enable learners to experience drones first-hand in 30 feet of vertical air space. Entry-level drones will be used for introduction to drone technologies and basic flight techniques. These drones can perform programmed flight patterns and stunts through coding applications and can be flown simultaneously without interference. In addition, the program features professional- grade drones with long-lasting batteries, extended range, and advanced gimbal technology for video stabilization. The Drone Training Program will enable learners to gain skills and experience needed to operate drone technologies which are used in a wide range of industries including agriculture, utility inspection, land surveying, aviation, search and rescue, real estate, filmmaking, and broadcasting.
